MASS에 대하여
2005년 강남구 역삼동에서 시작된 스페이스 매스는 문화와 테크놀로지를 화두로 하는 예술과 관련 연구를 지원하고 있습니다. 생각의 바이러스로서, 우리는 존재하는 그 공간을 기반으로 하는 새로운 생각과 예술작업을 전파하기 위하여 노력하고 있습니다. 2010년 새롭게 문을 연 상도동의 레지던시 공간에 한 명의 작가와 한 명의 연구자가 각각 6개월, 12개월 동안 살며, 작업하며, 연구합니다. [www.mass.or.kr]

외국인이 한국에 대해 생각한다는 것은 표면적인 관찰이라고 오해를 불러 일으킬 소지가 많다. 그러나 작가는 한국인 여성과 결혼하여 두 딸을 만들었고, 그에게 있어 한국은 특별할 수 있다. 특히 분단국가라는 공통점을 가진 그의 독일과 한국은 생각에 대한 미묘한 발판을 제공한다. 인생과 정치라는 이 세상 속의 유격은 아마도 무게에 대한 착시, 크기에 대한 오해로 해석하는 작가의 설치로부터 스멀대며 우리를 유혹할 것이다. -mass

A foreigner’s thinking about Korea might evoke a misunderstanding that must be a superficial observation. For the artist, however, Korea is special, because he married to a Korean woman, and made two daughters. His Germany and Korea have a sharing point as the divided country, as was and as is, and it provides a mysterious step for thinking about Korea. Perhaps, the gap between life and the politic in our world is interpreted by the artist as illusion on the weight and misunderstanding of the size, and then we are slowly and unwittingly persuaded by his installation. -mass
