Aesthetic Operations
Dear my researching comrades,
We are artists fundamentally and are becoming more elaborated and spiky artists. We, artists may be like a banner that withstands the wind and is about to tear, or they may fall like leaves in late autumn when they can no longer endure, or they may burn out and disappear like cigarette ash. At least as long as we observe each other differently in every moment, what about to disturb and stimulate one another?
This winter let us come back to arts via aesthetics and let us look at artworks as they are. We see so many artists and their works like composing meshes, not a tree-like or a coherent history. Not all of critics or art historians see those distributed chaotic scenes, but only few of them can get a chance to gaze them. Yes, I am talking to them that ‘do not talk about my artworks but make your artworks.’
But we cannot leave technological issues by re-affirming technical objects. Also, it is not easy to explain or study technical objects without contrasting the organisms. As Simondon pointed the mode of existence of technical objects as element-individual-ensemble, seemingly reflecting living objects, the organism as cell-organ-body. Even though those objects are beings in complicated multiplicities in speculative realism, there are still levels in their existences because they do not exist equally despite the equality of existence.
We are living in the world that is full of media art today, and the aesthetic is not a strange field for the technological anymore. On the contrary, what is more and more strange to us is the living.
Best,
Dr. Yoon, December 4, 2025
