LMJ 27 CALL FOR PAPERS

HISTORY AND MEMORY

For Volume 27 of Leonardo Music Journal we are soliciting articles (up to 3,000 words each) and shorter statements (750–900 words each) that discuss music and sound art directly addressing history and memory. Possible areas of focus include (but are not limited to):

Works that deal with specific historical events; the ways in which history is recorded, forgotten and rewritten; and personal and collective memory 

How memory technology has changed the character of musical instruments (e.g. tape loops, digital delays and computer memory)

The impact of technological obsolescence on the stability of art works, including the impermanence of operating systems and computer hardware, vanishing web links, etc.

Recreations and updates of historical works, including software emulations of lost hardware

Histories that address the possibilities and responsibilities of the future, i.e. histories of the present.

DEADLINES

• • 14 October 2016: Rough proposals (1 to 2 paragraphs)

  • 3 January 2017: Submission of finished articles
